Imagine IF: A Game-Based Introduction to Intellectual Freedom

Building on ALA President Sam Helmick’s “Choose Your Own Adventure Intellectual Freedom Edition” presentation, this session at the 2026 Public Library Association conference introduces an engaging and interactive digital resource to support public librarians through scenario-based gameplay. Attendees play the role of librarian as they navigate intellectual freedom issues and interact with patrons in an online game. Following game play, we’ll discuss local implementation and supplemental training needs. Expect game-inspired swag giveaways!
