Meet Me at the Library Book Talk with News Futures

A book talk and discussion with Shamichael Hallman, author of Meet Me at the Library, in conversation with Sierra Sangetti Daniels (News Futures) and Jennie Garner (North Liberty Public Library). This event is cosponsored with our friends and partners at News Futures.

America is facing an epidemic of loneliness and isolation, with troubling effects on our mental and physical health. We live in one of the most divisive times in our history, one in which we tend to work, play, and associate only with people who think as we do. How do we create spaces for people to come together—to open our minds, understand our differences, and exchange ideas?

Shamichael Hallman is a visionary leader in civic health and community development, currently serving as the Director of Civic Health and Economic Opportunity at the Urban Libraries Council. In this role, he champions the vital role of libraries as essential city infrastructure—connecting diverse communities, enhancing public safety, and driving economic opportunities for under served populations.

Sierra Sangetti Daniels is a journalist, educator, and media organizer. She is the Program Director at Press Pass NYC, working to start and sustain student journalism programs in NYC public schools. She also works as a steward for News Futures, a community of practice housed at City Bureau, working to build a world where local news systems have been transformed to equip people to participate in civic life.

Jennie Garner has been a public librarian for over 20 years. An active member in the community, she serves as a member of the Optimist Club and is active in the Iowa Library Association and Association for Rural and Small Libraries.
