Information Literacy in the Age of GenAI

Information literacy is among librarianship’s most important teachings. What happens when generative AI enters the spaces where students research, learn, and work? Library Futures and our panel of respected scholars and practitioners held a lively conversation on the role of libraries in the age of GenAI.

Dr. Andrea Baer is an Associate Professor of Practice in the School of Information at the University of Texas-Austin. She teaches courses in librarianship, academic librarianship, information literacy, library instruction, and scholarly communication. Andrea’s research interests include critical and digital literacies, inclusive pedagogies, affect and learning, critical reflective practice, instruction librarians teaching roles and practices, and the intersections between information literacy and writing.

Dr. Damien Patrick Williams is Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Data Science at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. His research, writing, and teaching focus on how technologies such as algorithms, machine intelligence, and biotechnological interventions are impacted by the values, knowledge systems, philosophical explorations, social structures, and even religious beliefs of human beings.

Mita Williams is the Law Librarian for the Don & Gail Rodzik Library at the University of Windsor. In addition to her law work, she has published and spoken widely on scholarly communication, user experience, generative AI, and more. Mita writes about librarianship and technology at Librarian of Things.
